Pregame: Green Archers vs Red Warriors
Posted by GREENARCHERS.PH
La Salle is looking to bounce back after a horrendous showing last Thursday as they go up against the UE Red Warriors. The Green Archers were unable to score a win against them is Season 72. The Warriors just had too much size, firepower and experience for our team to handle last year. Despite the loss of almost all of last year’s starters, UE remains to be a tall and formidable team.
It will be interesting to see coach Dindo go up against the school he guided for 5 seasons. With him at the coaching helm, UE was always a perennial contender. Though the Red Warriors’ composition has significantly changed since he left, Dindo is still very much familiar with their mainstays whom he recruited and developed.
UE is coming off an 80-67 opening day loss to UST. Paul Lee had a lackluster performance with only 7 points though it was reported that he played hurt. The comebacking James Martinez was also shut down by the tough perimeter defense of the Growling Tigers. Sophomore Ken Acibar, who once suited up for La Salle as an aspirant during the summer leagues a couple of years back, led the Warriors with 17 points.
Match-ups
When he is healthy, no one in the Archers’ backcourt can individually stop Lee. He can just hurt you in so many ways offensively. Simon may perhaps be the only one among our guards capable to hang tough with him throughout the match. It may be better to assign Joshua on Lee. James Martinez and Paul Zamar are basically spot-up shooters while Raffy Reyes is more of a slasher type. Though all of them played poorly against UST, expect them to play inspired ball on Sunday as they go up against their former mentor.

La Salle gets chewed upon by the Bulldogs
Posted by GREENARCHERS.PH
The Green Archers failed to follow-up on their impressive season debut as they got bitten hard by the NU Bulldogs today 55-59. The final score though does not reflect the sub-par performance of the team all throughout the match. The energy we expected from the team wasn’t there as they allowed NU to exert their muscle in the paint.
La Salle started the game off bad as they were unable to hit their shots. They ended the first half strong as they led by 1. It was all downhill from thereon as they committed so many lapses on defense aside from their shooting woes. The Archers only scored 6 points in the third period. When the team finally caught fire offensively, there was only a minute left in the match. Too late the hero as they say.
NU’s foreign rookie Emmanuel Mbe was a monster, figuratively speaking as he led all scorers with 21 and collared 19 rebounds. La Salle simply had no answer for Mbe’s strength down low. Cocoy Hermosisma had an offnight but his teammates stepped up and made the shots.
The Green Archers were not their usual selves on both ends. They failed to capitalize on their quickness and allowed NU to dictate the tempo of the game. Anchored on Mbe, the Bulldogs executed a more deliberate style of play thus enabling them to impose their will inside the shaded lane. Yutien was the lone bright spot among our big men. Ferdinand and Maui were completely lost while Jovet was a no-show after a good second quarter.

Pregame: Green Archers vs Bulldogs
Posted by GREENARCHERS.PH
The Green Archers aim for their second win in as many games as they face the NU Bulldogs. Last year, La Salle won its first round encounter with NU but come the second, it was the latter that administered the fatal blow to the Archers' final four hopes. Well that’s history now and this season promises a more intense match-up between these two squads.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 54-60 loss to Adamson in their initial outing. Despite the defeat, NU showed that they can compete with a team that is billed to be among the favorites this season.
Match-ups
The Green Archers will not only have to contend with NU’s size but also their pesky backcourt. Emmanuel Mbe, their 6’7 Cameroonian rookie solidifies the Bulldogs’ strength in the paint along with sturdy veterans Mervin Baloran and Jewel Ponferrada. Ferdinand, Jovet, Maui and Yutien need to capitalize on their ability to run the floor if they want to gain the upper hand in this match-up. Simon, Joshua, Joseph and the rest of our backcourt will have their hands full against the scrappy NU guards like Joseph Terso, Jerome Tungcul, Ajeet Singh and Cocoy Hermosisima.

UAAP Fan Code of Conduct
Posted by GREENARCHERS.PHAdopted by the UAAP Board- July 2010
Historically, sport was determined to be the more positive way of settling disputes between warring nation states. Why? Because rules were instigated to effect a measure of control on the athletes and the conduct of the activity. Next, the officials saw to it that the rules were applied to all and last, the fans could cheer for their “heroes” who brought them honor and glory. This illustrates the connection between these three participants involved in a sport event which has thus remained to the present.
As the official organizing body of the UAAP, the Board of Directors observed the escalating problem of violence during UAAP games, in particular, those involving players and fans. With the overall objective of creating a safe, comfortable and enjoyable experience for all supporters/participants of UAAP games/events, the UAAP Board of Directors prepared this Fan Code of Conduct as a guide to expected behaviors.

UAAP Season 73 teaser by De La Salle University
Posted by GREENARCHERS.PHWe present to you the much-awaited teaser of UAAP Seaon 73 which starts July 10. De La Salle University will host this year's season which happens to be their 4th time in doing so since joining the league in 1986.
The theme for UAAP Season 73 focuses on Heroism. UAAP President Bro. Bernie Oca FSC, launched a heroes theme during the media briefing last week at DLSU. “Because we need heroes… I want people to realize there’s a hero in each and every one of us.”, he said.
Hosting this year's UAAP is also in line with La Salle's preparation for its forthcoming centennial celebration.

Are the Archers beginning to feel the effect of 2006?
Posted by GREENARCHERS.PHThe Green Archers are currently on a slump in the preseason and lately, the team has been getting a lot of flak from avid followers online. With two consecutive blowout losses after a two-week training stint abroad, many are beginning to doubt the team’s chances to improve on their low finish last season. Readers who post their respective take on the situation often cite the Archer’s lack of height, experience and sometimes, even their drive to win.
Going through the comments, I can’t agree more with one reader who said that people don’t seem to realize that the suspension in 2006 is now hurting the team. One might ask how a year out of the league can hurt the team today especially that they even won the title upon their return. It seems to be a case of a delayed reaction, something which no one could have foreseen after our successful return.
A year off from the UAAP is nothing especially if your team is still strong. That was the case in 2007 when the Green Archers still had their court-savvy, championship-tested players still at the helm. With these veterans’ getting extended eligibility, La Salle remained competitive for the first two seasons after the suspension.
The aftermath was not felt immediately but it sure seems to be now. If we look closely, the suspension did have its pluses in the short term but the tradeoff in the long run affected the overall balance of the team today.

Lady Spikers’ got their post-game faces on
Posted by GREENARCHERS.PHThis pic says it all! The Lady Spikers have already put this recently concluded season behind them and will look forward to a more fruitful campaign next year. This was taken during their thanksgiving dinner hours after last Saturday's game.
The team will remain intact for next season as most of the seniors still have one year of eligibility left. This of course is assuming that they decide to return for another tour of duty. The future looks bright for our Lady Spikers and even though they were not able to defend the crown this year, they still gave us one helluva performance. And for that we thank you Ladies.

Lady Spikers Fall in 4 Sets, Yield Title to UST
Posted by NelThe Lady Spikers failed to repeat as champions as they fell to a resurgent UST in 4 sets, 18-25, 14-25, 25-16, 15-25. Led by skipper Stephanie Mercado, the team put up a valiant stand but fell prey to the taller and more experienced UST team.
La Salle took the first point of the match, but that was the only time they would taste the lead in the opening set. Although the Lady Spikers managed to limit their errors to 7, the same number as UST, poor reception resulted in less points on the attacks, 5 to UST's 14. Our team's spikes were either partially blocked or easily retrieved. Blocking was not as effective at the start, allowing UST to build their momentum and confidence as their attacks penetrated our net defenses. Trailing at 10-12, UST scored on 3 spikes and an error by Gohing to lead at the 2nd technical timeout. The Lady Spikers pulled to within 16-19 before UST went to their powerful hitters to take the first set.
The 2nd set started off on a positive note, with the team taking the lead up to the first technical timout at 8-7. However, unforced errors from our service as well as a couple of errant spikes allowed UST to take the lead, 8-11 forcing Coach Ramil to call for time and advise the players to slow things down. He also fielded Cerveza, Yeung, Gumabao, and Diego in an effort to break the lethargic play of our team, to no avail. Uncertainty and a curious loss of concentration told on the team, as they yielded the second set 14-25. In this set, UST exploited a small weakness whenever our setter Martinez was in the frontline as they shifted the ball to her side and used their height advantage to power their shots over her. With momentum on their side, UST looked to sweep the Lady Spikers.

Lady Spikers are back in the Finals vs UST
Posted by NelHeartbreaks? Not this time.
The Lady Spikers made it to the finals as expected via a 16-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-22 victory over Adamson today. They will have a shot to defend their crown as they go up against the UST Tigresses, who in the succeeding semis match scored a straight set win over Ateneo. The best of three championship series starts Wednesday at 4pm in the San Juan Arena.
The team started off sluggishly. The Lady Falcons showed a lot of grit and determination as the combination of Pau Soriano, Angela Benting and Jill Gustillo took the Lady Spikers off their rhythm. As Coach Ramil noted between the first and second sets, they looked like they were still asleep. The Lady Spikers sleepwalked through the first set against the desperate Adamson team, often a step late in their floor defense and committing 9 unforced errors, which was the margin at the end of the first set. The team's timing seemed a bit off, and during a timeout Coach Ramil calmly advised them to take their time. However, Adamson rode on the momentum to take the first set.
