When he was in Grade 3, Chris Macasaet really wanted to be part of De La Salle-Lipa’s basketball team. When he raised his hand to join the squad, however, the recruiters just ignored him. This influenced him to set his sights to another sport—volleyball.

Seven years later, Chris no longer had to raise his hands to get the attention of recruiters. Several collegiate agents pursued him relentlessly. But a La Sallian since his elementary years, Chris naturally decided to play for the De La Salle University-Manila.

“It has always been my dream to play for La Salle,” Chris said. “Besides, I already knew the school’s system, so there was no use for me to leave.”

The hype he got proved to be warranted. In his rookie year, the 6’2”-tall Chris already bagged the Best Blocker award. This has sent a warning to the whole league. Chris was not just pure buildup—he has real talent.

Both Macasaet and Dela Vega had 14 points apiece for the Green Spikers, who improved their record to 7-5.

After struggling in the early part of the tournament, our men’s volleyball team has climbed their way into contention. With only 2 games remaining in their elimination round schedule, they have to win both in order for them to solidify their position in the final four.

University of the Philippines overcame La Salle’s twice-to-beat edge in the Final Four to arrange a title showdown with top ranked University of Santo Tomas in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) men’s volleyball tournament.

The State U six entered the championship round after a 16-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-23 win Wednesday over the Green Archers at The Arena in San Juan.

Jan Paolo Martinez scored 22 points while Lloyd Belgado added 14 markers including eight blocks for the Fighting Maroons, who faces UST in a best-of-three finals which starts Sunday at The Arena.

Chris Macaset was the Green Archers’ lone double digit scorer with 27 points.

The Green Archers finished the eliminations with a 10-4 mark to obtain the twice-to-beat bonus but they were no match for the streaking Fighting Maroons, who had a 9-5 win-loss card entering the Final Four.

The game was tied at 19 in the fourth set but UP racked up five straight points as Michael Jordan Arda sent the game into match point.

La Salle looked to salvage the match with four consecutive points but Martinez ended the game with a hit.

UP forced a rubber match after a 25-18, 25-20, 25-22 win over La Salle on Sunday.
