Despite a heartbreaker on Valentine’s Day, Lady Spikers still remain on top.

In their last elimination round match, the Lady Spikers absorbed its first loss of the season today as they fall to the UST Tigresses 25-23, 20-25, 28-26, 16-25, 12-15. Despite this setback, the team still remains on top of the standings and will have the twice-to-beat advantage in the semis.

Nice game, UST deserved the win because they were steadier in the endgame. Some uncertainty crept into the Lady Spikers’ game, and that resulted in their play being less sharp and aggressive as they were in the past. Not to take anything away from UST, but those last 2 service reception errors were definitely unforced errors, balls which our team should have fielded cleanly. And the serve continued to be a double edged sword, netting us some quick points but also giving some away, but what hurt was that they occurred in the 4th and 5th sets. Perhaps the team just wanted the win too much. That loss was a bump on the road to the championship.

Lady Spikers vs Tigresses: No love lost in Valentine’s Day duel

In what could be a Season 72 championship preview, the Lady Spikers and the Tigresses will face off to cap the elimination round before an expected full-house crowd on Sunday.

Earlier on that day, the Green Spikers will try to formally cement its footing in the men’s semis as they clash with Ateneo. Both teams are tied at 7-6 and the winner will grab the 3rd seed in the Final Four.

Though both teams are already assured of the top 2 positions in the semis, the Lady Spikers and Tigresses are still expected to give it their all in this Valentine’s Day/Chinese New Year Showdown. The Lady Spikers are gunning for a rare elimination round sweep while the Tigresses are out to avenge their first round loss and of course stop La Salle in bringing out the brooms.

Lady Spikers crush Amazons to secure top spot in semis

Today, the Lady Spikers cemented their position as top seed, breezing through UE in straight sets, 25-10, 25-14 and 25-20. With 2 losses, UST can only finish 2nd.

Michelle Gumabao and Clarisse Yeung were fielded in the 2nd set, while Carmel Garbin, Camille Cerveza and Regine Diego had some playing time in the 3rd. The serve continued to be a double-edged weapon for our team, resulting in some easy points as it frustrated the UE receivers, but also gifted then with some freebies as the aggressive serving resulted in some serves either hitting the net or sailing long. Jacq served at least 2 aces and Gumabao 1. Team captain Steph Mercado had another sterling game as she scored repeatedly off spikes and blocks, and the rest of the team backed her up with good all around play while minimizing their unforced errors.

Kevin Garnett’s Black Equation – adidas

FRESH+STYLE = EQUATION

KG-verticleThroughout history, superstar athletes have always had a unique way of making an impact in sports and now they are creating statements outside the lines. Fashion statements. Global sportswear and lifestyle brand adidas is introducing the newest addition to its footwear line where style and choice come together in the Equation. The Equation blends lifestyle trends with performance benefits to create personalized off-the-court options.

The shoe comes in two colorways: brown and black. It has removable collar, allowing the footwear to convert from hi-top to low-cut and demonstrating the full customization possible with this off-court product. It is footwear based on style and choice told personally though three of the NBA’s top statement makers, Dwight Howard, Derrick Rose, and Kevin Garnett. The Equation is all about sneaker love and how each baller makes his personal statement and style. All three players have strong points of view on what constitutes stylish kicks but their tastes vary. Dwight Howard’s “It’s on me to leave my mark,” Derrick Rose’s “It’s on me to represent the 312,” and Kevin Garnett’s” It’s on me to complement my ring” celebrate the individuality of …
