Pregame: Green Archers vs Falcons Round 2
Posted by GREENARCHERS.PH
With the twice-to-beat advantage already out of reach and their final four adversary still unknown until Saturday night, what will be the Green Archers’ mindset heading into their final elimination game against the Adamson Falcons? I’d expect that they will get out there and play as if this game mattered.
You want to know why La Salle will still be motivated to play hard tomorrow?
1. Because Adamson remains to be the only team the Archers have yet to beat this season. Wouldn’t it be a great accomplishment for this young team to have beaten all the other schools at least once?
2. Because with a lot of luck, these two teams might even meet in the finals. Gain a psychological advantage by beating them.
3. Because from a confidence standpoint, it is better for the Green Archers to end the eliminations on a winning note.
4. Because third place is always better than fourth.
5. Because this team plays to win always.
It was almost the same time last year when this team was playing for survival. Now they are playing for respect.
Play hard. Finish Strong.

The Benefits of Being Barefoot
Posted by GREENARCHERS.PH
We have all been born barefoot. A long time ago, people have lived and survived without using protective footwear. But, today, because of technology and the many changes it brought, wearing shoes became an essential part of life. But beyond all the protection and the style shoes provide, we seem to have forgotten the significant benefits and sense of freedom being barefoot brings.
Shoes were first invented thousands of years ago—way back when people used to live in caves. Back then, they used animal hides and leather laces to protect their feet from the rough terrain. Millennia passed and the concept of shoes evolved in countless ways from its design, material, and even its uses. It became a necessity to shod oneself. However, no matter how things change, most people still prefer to do a lot of things barefoot. It is all because being barefoot is very comfortable. But, aside from the unrivaled relaxation being barefoot brings, it also has a considerable number of benefits, not just to the feet, but the body as a whole.
Doing activities barefoot brings a lot of advantages to the body’s flexibility and mobility. It allows people to exercise, stretch, relax, and strengthen muscles they normally don’t get to use when wearing shoes. Barefoot running also corrects the way people run—making them land on the balls of their feet—as compared to wearing rubber shoes which gives the tendency to land on the heels first. Landing on the heels of the feet releases more pressure and shock to legs and knees.

Junior Archers beat Baby Tams to clinch playoff berth
Posted by GREENARCHERS.PHThe Junior Archers advance to the stepladder round as they trounced the FEU-FERN Baby Tams 66-60 this morning in a knock-out match. Gabby Reyes carried the load for DLSZ he led the team with 29 points and 11 rebounds.
As the 4th seed, the Junior Archers will next face the NU Bullpups in another knock-out game this Tuesday. The winner will then need to beat 2nd seed UST twice to make it to the championship round against Ateneo. The defending champion Blue Eaglets are already in the finals by sweeping eliminations.
A tall order indeed for the Junior Archers but it can be done. One game at a time.

The View From the Armchair – Game 13 vs UE
Posted by Nel
Memo to Green Archers: don’t take any team for granted, particularly one playing to salvage some pride out of a lost season. And if you’re superstitious, exercise extra caution on the 13th game.
Playing with barely a day’s rest in between games, the Green Archers came out looking to win a shootout with UE, and fell, 74-80 in their penultimate game in the eliminations. The 5th loss dented the Archers’ chances of figuring in a race for a twice-to-beat advantage in the playoffs; however with Adamson’s loss to NU, the final placing will be determined in our game with the Falcons on Thursday.
The Archers got another quick start, allowed UE to grab the lead, 8-11, then poured it on to take a 10-point lead at 22-12 behind a hot start by Papot (8 points) and Spider (6 points) before settling into a 25-20 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The 25 points we scored was enabled by our accurate shooting from the 2point area, where we made 12 out of 19, but unfortunately we missed all our 5 3point attempts in the period. The relatively high score was an ominous sign of how the game would be played.
Our shooting dipped in the second quarter, where we made only 5 out of our 16 attempts. UE’s energy level, on the other hand, seemed to exceed ours as they matched us in rebounding for the quarter with 14 boards, and their tenacious defending forced us into 7 turnovers which they translated into 5 points in contrast to UE’s 4 turnovers. UE again pounced on our sluggish defense to score 20 points in the quarter, capitalizing on our foul trouble to sink 13 out of 15 ft attempts in the half. Fouls limited the playing time of Simon, and this possibly was a factor in his sub-par performance in the game.

The Green Mind – UE Humbles La Salle
Posted by Tony L Atayde Jr
University of the East, playing spoiler, beat La Salle 80-74 and essentially knocked out any chance of the Archers grabbing a twice to beat advantage in the Final Four.
The Bad News:
Offficiating was awful. Though 2 of the 3 referees were very fair, refeere no. 44 did not make one single call for La Salle. He was calling it tight for UE all game, yet allowed the UE players to play a very physical game.
We were killed by UE's fastbreak. I have never seen La Salle victimized by so many fastbreak points this season. UE controlled the tempo of the game and that usually means that they will get those fastbreak points.
La Salle could not find the right combination of players to make a run. Aside from Papot Paredes, who played a monster game and Luigi de la Paz, no other Archer stepped up to lead the team. Atkins was not himself today and that goes for the rest of the team.
The defense was not as intense as everyone is used to. UE was able to penetrate and make uncontested shots and this is something that is not normally a trait of the vaunted La Salle defense.
La Salle did not exploit the height advantage they had over UE. The Warriors are a small team yet the inside game of La Salle was not present. The Archers forgot the way they beat FEU. Webb, Andrada and Mendoza were unable to do what they best.
Our foul shooting left much to be desired. We are so inconsistent and foul shooting will be extremely important in the Final Four.
The UE player named Paul Lee. This guy is just unbelievable. His mere presence on the court is enough to motivate the rest of the players to play their best. He was the big difference. La Salle had nobody to guard him like Tampus did in stopping RR Garcia of FEU.

Blazers outlast Chiefs for 2nd straight win

(The Arena, San Juan)
10 a.m. JRU vs CSB-La Salle Greenhills (Jrs)
2 p.m. JRU vs St Benilde (Srs)
College of Saint Benilde won back-to-back games for the first time in the 86th NCAA basketball tournament but it almost failed to do such feat against Arellano University on Friday.
The Blazers nearly paid for a crucial mistake when the Chiefs bungled two clutch freethrows in the dying seconds to escape with a 71-69 victory at The Arena in San Juan. Holding a precarious 70-69 lead, CSB's Ian de la Paz gave up a foul on a driving Jerald Lapuz with 5.3 seconds remaining. But to the delight of a very sparse Benildean crowd, the burly Lapuz muffed both foul shots and Mark de Guzman grabbed the rebound and was fouled with 2.2 ticks left.
De Guzman, who finished with 19 points, made just one of two charities to make it a two-point lead and Arellano's Vergel Zulueta nearly gave St Benilde a shocking loss as his miracle shot from near midcourt hit the left side of the rim at the buzzer. The win enabled the squad of coach Richard del Rosario to hike their record to four wins and eight losses for solo seventh spot.

Pregame: Green Archers vs Red Warriors Round 2
Posted by GREENARCHERS.PH
After a one-year absence, the Green Archers are back in familiar territory – the Final Four. Except for last year, the team has been in this post-elimination round phase since the format was adopted in 1994. Making it this far is already an achievement for this young team considering that they were not even expected to contend this season. Well now that they are in, they might us well take it up a notch and try to clinch a twice-to-beat advantage.
Don’t expect the also-ran UE Warriors to roll over and just give us the game without a fight. To be honest, they did quite well in the second round, scoring a couple of upset wins and nearly defeated the top team in the league. Unfortunately, it’s a case of too late the hero as the losses that piled up in the first round were just too much for them to bounce back in contention.
Here’s hoping that La Salle would continue to build on the momentum from their last two wins as we approach the homestretch of the eliminations. Finish strong guys!

The View From the Armchair – Game 12 vs UST
Posted by Nel
On to the final 4. The Green Archers withstood the desperate attempts of UST to come back from a 3rd quarter deficit, won the 4th quarter shootout to prevail 78-69 to snuff out the playoff ambitions of UST. With the victory of FEU over NU in the first game, the final 4 cast was sealed.
The Archers jumped to a quick 5-2 lead with 2 quick undergoal stabs by Maui and a free throw by Joshua as the Archers pounced on 3 early turnovers by UST, but after a timeout, UST stormed back to take a 10-8 lead which they maintained until the end of the first quarter. The shaky start of the Archers was evidenced in the 7 turnovers in the first 10 minutes. However, our defense stiffened and held UST scoreless for the first 5:45 of the second quarter to grab the lead for good. The second quarter saw UST score only 9 points, miss all 3point attempts, while Joel, Sam, and Simon connected from beyond the arc; the 3point makes were the margin at the half, 36-27.
The 3rd quarter was more competitive, and in fact we were outscored by 2 points, 17-19 as UST finally connected on their 3point attempts, Bautista with 2 and Teng with 1. UST capitalized on our 6 3rd quarter turnovers for 9 points and 5 offensive boards for 7 2nd chance points to narrow the gap to 53-46 after 3 quarters. Two quick baskets by Joshua and a trey by Simon gave us a 12point lead at 60-48 before Camus finally scored his first points, but Joshua, Jovet and Maui combined to give us our biggest lead at 66-50. The closest UST would get was 73-67 before Joel and Simon finished off the wounded Tigers with free throws.
