MANILA, Philippines – La Salle continued to stamp its class in the Filoil-Flying V Pre-Season MVP Cup as it fashioned out a 91-69 victory over Mapua for its third win in a row at the Filoil-Flying V Arena in San Juan yesterday.

Joshua Webb came away with 14 points while Gabriel Banal and PJ Barua added 13 points apiece as the Archers stayed unbeaten before leaving for the US tomorrow for an alumni convention and training which will last for two weeks.

“We’re here in this tournament to gauge the strength and weaknesses of our team especially now that we have a lot of new players,” said La Salle head coach Franz Pumaren.

Rookies Arvie Bringas, Joseph Tolentino, Gabriel Banal, and Yutien Andrada combined for 34 points to provide the needed backup to the team’s mainstays.

The Archers dominated the Cardinals from start to finish, leading by as many as 27 points, 87-60, in the last quarter.

  1. where’s marata?

  2. great game by the vastly improved Joshua Webb!

  3. Marata was there in street clothes, not sure why he didn’t suit up.

  4. Gabriel Banal should definitely be included in the UAAP line-up. They guy plays like a veteran, a real team player if you ask me. Joshua Webb improved greatly too. I like our chances this coming UAAP season.

  6. wheres hyram bagatsing?

  7. JV and Rico are out. But the Archers aren’t. I like our chances this season with the new blue chip rookies on our side.

  8. When are the Archers coming back from the US and what is the schedule of their games at the Fil-Oil? Also, how come the women’s volleyball team is not playing in the Shakey’s tournament? Thank you and God bless!

  9. The Archers are already back. They have a game on May 23, this Saturday, against UE. There is a possibility that they may not perform up to par due to the climate adjustment, travel-related fatigue, and they have to get their body clocks back in sync with our time zone.

The women’s volleyball team could not put together a competitive lineup. Remember that some of our key players were injured but played through the pain during the UAAP championship series against FEU. They are only starting to recover from these injuries. Also, after that great performance in the UAAP, they’ve earned a much needed break from volleyball. They’ve earned the right to sit this one out.

  10. According to Storm Shadow, the Green Archers clobbered STI 78-41 in the NSL today (Monday, May 18). STI has been the favorite whipping boy of the other participants in the NSL, so I wouldn’t read too much in the lopsided win.
