New Archers: Who are these guys?
We have been receiving a lot of queries from our members in multiply and facebook with regards to the names of those new guys who played in the Fil-Oil MVP Cup last Saturday. For the benefit of those who were unable to watch the game live or in TV, the Green Archers paraded several fresh faces and all performed well to help the team win their initial assignment against the Blue Eagles.
6 – Gabriel Banal: The son of Coach Joel Banal was already enrolled in La Salle last year but was chosen to play instead for the RP Youth Team. He was a former standout in Xavier School.
9 – Papot Paredes: Another RP Youth team member from Reedley, we hope he could eventually give the team a much-needed lift in the frontcourt.
16 – Yutien Andrada: The 6’7 beanpole was a member of the recent championship teams of the San Sebastian Staglets in the NCAA Juniors division. With good defensive skills, he has the potential to be a threat in the shaded lane as soon as he bulks up.
23 – Samuel Joseph Marata: Nope this is not former UP Maroon Nestor David as some may have thought. But he actually played for UPIS in high School though and his dad Sammy was a standout for the UP college team in the late 80s. Also, his two uncles Ric-Ric and Romulo were former professional players. Is there still any doubt that basketball runs in this boy’s family? He also played for the RP Youth team last year.
24 – Joel Tolentino: And yet another RP Youth team member, this cat-quick guard from UPIS played quite well last Saturday and will provide extra depth in the team’s backcourt rotation.
21 – Kish Grover Co: Oh yes he’s back! We included him here as some would not probably recognize him from the previous years because of his new “afro-man” image. Along with the new curly tops comes a more aggressive game from Kish whose presence was sorely missed last year.
I may as well include Coach Dindo Pumaren. After all those years seeing him on the other side of the scorers table about 5 meters away from Coach Franz, we will get accustomed to this scene eventually.

Rookies lift La Salle past Ateneo in preseason opener
http://www.inboundpass.com/2009/04/19/rookies-lift-la-salle-past-ateneo-in-preseason-opener/
Simon played last saturday. Check the game story
Norbert Torres is still not eligible for UAAP due to residency. Two years pa.
But he can play in minor tournaments like FMC
Atkins is currently in the lineup of the FilOil tournament.
Thank you for introducing them. I’ve read them about them but could never put a face to the name.
Team B lang ba si Jed Manguera? I see him pratice with the Archers eh. Akala ko kasama siya
Wooh i love it! KISH IS BACK!!!!
La Salle is really lucky to have players from the RP Youth team.
Kabatch (CATCH 2T12) at kacollege ko si Gab!! Siya yung sinasabi sa akin ng mga ilan kong batchmates. Maglalaro na rin sya. Hahaha… Good luck sa inyo…
Napalitan ba si Jovet Mendoza? saan na sya?
Jovet is still playing with the team – he’s part of the NSL lineup.
Maraming bago… and guess what? they all play like veterans… pero meron pa alam ko ibang players i see during their training…bakit wala sila?
there are some players who played in the nike summer league but no included in the fil oil line-up, hope you could also feature them
we are very proud with the way our rookies played, fearless and with a lot of spunk. good luck to our rookies and God bless.
What is the latest with Bringas? Will he be playing for la Salle or not?
what’s the news about arvie bringas?
Saw the game last Saturday and these guys are indeed promising. They’re potential could even surpass the rookie batches of 2001 (Yeo, Cardona, Villanueva, Sharma) or 2003 (Casio, Arana, Walsham, Gaco).
The future looks bright indeed for the Archers
Isn’t Arvie Bringas part of the lineup?
After the just concluded match against UP, we can now finally announce that Arvie Bringas is part of the line-up for this tournament. Also included is Martin Reyes
As we only allow factual infomation posted in this site, we initially withheld all comments or inquiries regarding the status of Bringas until we have gotten confirmation from team management.
He played today and scored in double figures. More details later.
surely, these bunch of rookies would cause headache on the coaching staff. reason: they are all good. bringas, paredes, tolentino, marata, banal, andrada, and reyes are gradually learning how to play la salle basketball. In the coming uaap season,i’ll pick revilla, atkins, webb, mangahas, barua, ferdinand, bagatsing, villanueva, malabes, bringas, banal, marata, tolentino, marko, and co. the 15th spot is a toss-up between reyes and paredes. andrada, manguerra, mendoza, and torres will be a good addition next year. hope they would stay since co, barua, marko, and probably mangahas would be playing their last uaap season this year. good bunch of rookies. a nice headache for the coaching staff.
how bout ARTHUR WALSHAM? where is he?
Walsham has already graduated.
Is Marko still playing? Perhaps Paredes instead as Torres has another year to seat it out. La Salle usually has the best guards. A strong center of the likes of Limpot or Allado is perhaps the missing link?
May we know the heights of the new archers please? You have a line up with positions and years played, can you also add the heights of the other archers please?
Jaime Gonzales
Liacom 70
The excitement that the new players are bringing is still a step behind the one being exuded in the back-to-back tandem of the Pumaren brothers!
I can’t wait ’til the Red team bows down…
Peace!
kasama ba sa line up si martin reyes?(lsgh)
how about la revilla?
i always believe in the animo spirit….its good that the rookies are all good players but its different in the arena where most players are already in the PBL…..aim high, strike hard like a real archer…Godbless
Can we photos and statistics of Archers Team B that will play at the forth coming Father Martin Cup ?
just wondering, sorry but a little off topic…
was watching the NCAA a while ago, and remembered Keith Agovido of JRU high school.. Correct me if i’m wrong, he’s the kid who scored 81 points in a game last year and i think he was also the MVP?
Where is he now? THANKS!!
