Blue Eagles get their Back-to-Back

ateneo_champ
For the second year in a row, the Blue Eagles are once again the kings of seniors basketball.

We would like to congratulate the entire Ateneo community for their double back-to-back victories. See you guys next season.

Congratulations to the Ateneo Blue Eagles and Eaglets!!!
Sana next year DLSU naman ang mag-champion!
    Godbless!

  2. James G says:

As I predicted… whatever man, I’m not happy they won it – or anyone else for that matter – but we’re taking it back next year. These guys better enjoy it for now!

  3. GREENARCHERS.PH says:

C’mon let’s give credit to them. It was just simply their year. We would have done the same if UE had won. Anyway we don’t expect everyone to be happy here but we will still acknowledge the fact that they are the champions.

  4. James G says:

It’s all good… congrats to the champs.

  5. dis says:

What’s this congratulations all about? Are you aware of how much below-the-belt bashing ateneans do to us on their websites? Have you forgotten the burning of our players’ names in their bonfire? Come on! They literally hate us, and here we are being so nice to them. Why have La Sallians these days become so soft on ateneo? That’s why they’re walking all over us with their non-stop bashing! Can we please have some Archer Pride and stop this “congratulations ateneo” balony?!!

  6. Josh says:

La Salle and Ateneo are two sides of the same coin. Two very prestigious learning institutions–the very best in the Philippines. There is nothing wrong with having Archer Pride, but that does not mean we sow the seeds of animosity toward our rivals in our hearts–where “Jesus supposedly lives forever”. As much as I am proud to be La Sallian and will always cheer my heart out for our beloved Green Archers in their every game–especially against Ateneo, my La Sallian education still dictates that I graciously congratulate the deserving winners of this tournament. So Congratulations Ateneo! (no balony here) See you next year! ANIMO LA SALLE!!!

  7. Nel says:

    @dis
Being pro-La Salle doesn’t mean we should be anti-Ateneo. The rivalry should be viewed purely in the perspective of competition in the sporting arena. If we are offended by the actions of a few Ateneans who mis-behave and bash us, why should we act in the same manner? The “alaskahan” should be viewed as something to spice up the rivalry, but limited just to that context. To live the La Sallian values is to be above such petty behavior.
Outside the sporting competition, there is no rivalry. You see La Sallians and Ateneans who are relatives, officemates, friends, colleagues, and there is no real rivalry to speak of. To say they hate us is to look at reality from the same biased, bigoted, and myopic view as those you criticize. And those who openly bash us are the noisy minority. The reality is that except for the school affiliation, most Ateneans are just like La Sallians and vice versa.
The La Sallian values call for us to do the right thing, be Christians who live the gospel. Congratulating them for their victory is the right thing to do. In fact, to remain silent is to show that we are envious, petulant, jealous, all qualities that should not be part of the make up of a La Sallian.

hey nel, just look at it this way. DLSU lost to ATENEO a remarcable 6-straight times from season 71, we could actually use anything we can to burn-up the spirit. I feel dis and we should indeed have a little more hate cause I think it can actually help. Negativity is not always bad

  9. James G says:

Here’s where you all lose me… this “let’s all be Christians and love each other” talk! I’m Christian but I despise Ateneo – does that make me a sinner? I don’t wish harm or ill will to them on a personal level but whenever we play them, I want to beat the CRAP out of them, as I’m sure, they want to do to us! So please spare me all this “In the spirit of St. John” stuff! That’s completely besides the point! We are dealing strictly with an athletic arena, the athletic field of battle not some theological debate about good vs. evil or whether or not we should congratulate them because we are Christians?!? Really now, what does that have to do with anything relative to the basketball court? Can’t I just be pissed that we didn’t win and they did without being lectured about our “Christian values”???

  10. Ed says:

It was really the Eagles’ season. But the loss of Rabeh Al-Hussaini, Jai Reyes and Nonoy Baclao will make things a little tougher for them to go 3 years straight… not even Norman Black wants to make predictions right now.

Can’t wait for next season! The Archer’s have had this season to make their mistakes and learn from them; I’m sure season 73 will show them return to the UAAP’s elite. ANIMO LA SALLE!

  11. greenhorn says:

Chill out brother James G. You have all the right to despise them but for all the bashing, trash-talking and bonfire burning they had committed against us, do you think they became better than us??? If you were offended by them, let’s just keep it to ourselves for awhile and be “sports,” so to speak, we’ll have our time again. I also rooted for UE coz it’s my parents alma mater and I honestly don’t want to see ADMU winning the prize but as most had written, it maybe was their “time.” Remember, as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow, so is Team Archers’ turn to prove that “WE ARE BACK” once more. So just ignore whatever you hear good about them if you’re a bit slighted, smile and say to yourself “they haven’t achieved a four-peat yet.”
    LOSE OR WIN, FOREVER GREEN!

  12. Nel says:

    @James,
No one ever said you had to like the ill treatment some misguided Ateneans like to dish out towards us. I don’t like it either, but I choose not to respond in the same vein. It’s what we do that sets us apart from them. Do we want to behave like those we dislike? Hate is too strong a word – it’s proof that what they do is getting to us, that we’re letting it affect us. If so, then they’ve achieved their goal – getting our goat. Do you really want to give them the satisfaction that they got to us?

BTW, let’s make a distinction between the institution, Ateneo, and the noisy minority who seem hell bent on giving their school a bad name through their obnoxious actions.

My point – what they say isn’t important, so why should I waste my energy getting mad? Why should we even bother with something so trivial, so petty, so small-minded? I’d rather focus on more important things like my family and friends, my job, helping others, and doing what’s right according to the code of conduct dictated by our La Sallian values. We shouldn’t just talk the values, we should live them if we really want to be La Sallians in the best way. Not like those who try to put us down out of pure spite and bigotry. That’s what sets us apart from the others. If we don’t like what they do, at least let’s not be like them. Let’s be better than them.

  13. Fred Cebu says:

Guys, there is such a thing as sportsmanship too! Let’s just be magnanimous in defeat. There will be more seasons to come, at least in your lifetime.

  14. dis says:

    @Nel,
This “turn the other cheek” mentality will NOT make us better than them. It will only show that we can’t defend our selves so “let’s be friends instead”. Let’s not be sissies here. Green Archers are supposed to be soldiers with a take-no-prisoners mindset.

Oh, and the ateneans who openly bash us are NOT the minority. NOTHING good is said about La Salle in any ateneo website. They openly destroy the name of our beloved school by calling it stuff like “VL Salle” or “DLRT” or “AL Salle”. They always preach about our so-called “win-at-all-costs” philosophy. They refer to our players as “professionals disguising as students”. They openly chant “SUSPENDED” in actual games against us. And the list goes on.

Are we just gonna take this sitting down and be all sweet to them?

I hate to say this, but I’m afraid Eagle Pride has become much more powerful than Archer Pride.

  15. Proud Archer says:

I am no fence sitter. I feel both James G’s emotions, and Nel’s reasoning and logic. I also want us to beat the crap out of them …on the basketball court, and any other competitive arena, whether it be sports, intellectual contests, or others. Period.

Outside of these arenas, let them harp to high heavens that they are better than us. Are they really? By gloating, they will just come down notches way below us. So just give them a rope to hang themselves with.

Personally, there really is an annoying minority who think you can never be above them. When we were winning in basketball, their excuse was their school hymn “..win or lose, its the school we choose”. Their players may suck but are intelligent home grown players while ours had no brains and had been recruited from some God-forsaken school in the States and the provinces, purely for their basketball talents.

If you were old enough to remember, they posted Johnedel Cardel’s IQ at 57. Now that they are winning with the same recruitment practices we have done in the past, their so called “purists” are suddenly silent.

So see??? We can easily get back at them. Their rope is already around their necks and the noose is ready to be tightened.

    But I choose not to.

Because as people, some of them are also very good relatives, colleagues, friends, best men, and romantics (JC Intal’s GF for instance was from La Salle, though I don’t know if they are still an item…chumismis pa!!! :-D ).

Believe me. I’ve worked with them and continue to do so. They are no better than the next monkey, much more us. So why even give them your attention? For the noisy ones, its a waste of time really to even respond to their antics.

Last season, I reserved my congratulations for very obvious reasons. That commissioner should never be allowed to hold that position ever again. This season, they deserve the win. So like it or not, let’s congratulate them. We will have the opportunities to get back at them. Didn’t you see our team? The rookies and sophomores’ potentials are boundless.

We will get it back. Just be patient. Animo!!!!

  16. greenhorn says:

As what Atenean Erap (whom they openly reject as one) said “weather-weather” lang yan…Proud Archer is right. Be patient but stay humble.Time nila ngayon, next year, alat na mga yan!..BACK2BLACK???? Pwe!!!..FOUR-PEAT muna sila bago magyabang!!!…Bitter daw tayo…bitter your A..!!!

  17. greenie4ever says:

Obviously, it was their year – buenas talaga, as a fellow La Sallite said. Everything went their way, they had a better line-up and their pre-season training seemed to really help prepare them for the UAAP championship. My admiration ends there. The character of their players really doesn’t speak much for them. I remember Nonoy Baclao, while watching one La Salle/Ateneo game, uttering derogatory remarks about Carlo Sharma’s ethnic background – something akin to “amoy bombay!” – while he was still serving his residency. I wonder if Rabeh ever knew this, considering Carlo’s his relative. Then again, Rabeh may not even care. I’ve always maintained that the best thing any player should get out of playing for an exclusive school is a good education. Not everything revolves around the game and there is a life after basketball. Fortunate are the players who realize this and really treasure the education given them by the school. We’ll be around next year. Let’s just be sure we come prepared to compete fiercely. ANIMO!!!

  18. greenhorn says:

Just imagine the decency and a sense of sportsmanship we greenarchers have. We even posted an article for our bitter rival to congratulate them. Did they do the same when we were champs in 2007? Talk about good breeding or well-schooled. Just asking.

  19. greenhaptic says:

    im a benildean . . and a benildean supports the archers for their victory next season . . . animo la salle ! ! 1LA SALLE! !
