As reported by GreenArrows at Archerpride.com, Coach Franz Pumaren will step down as the head coach of the Green Archers after the PCCL tournament. Coach Franz will be running for a local position in next year’s elections. Team Manager Terry Capistrano has likewise tendered his resignation to concentrate on his business endeavors.

In 11 seasons under Coach Franz, the Green Archers has made it to the finals 9 times winning 5 (6 if you count the 2004 season). His best achievement was piloting the squad to a remarkable four-peat in his first 4 years under the helm. His coaching track record speaks for itself and I believe it would be difficult for anyone to even equal what he has achieved.

He will be best remembered as a coach who brought out the best in all his players. It was his system that made the Archers a competitive team year in and year out. Coach Franz will soon assume the role as team consultant.

We would like to thank Coach Franz as well as Mr. Capistrano for their valuable contributions to the team through the years. We will be forever grateful to the both of you.

With this, we welcome the new head coach of the Green Archers, no other than Dindo “The Bullet” Pumaren. After a successful tenure with UE, Coach Dindo returns to his alma mater and thus becomes the 4th Pumaren to be the team’s bench tactician after father Pilo and older brothers Derrick and Franz (note: thanks to our readers for the correction 10/7).

Good Luck Coach Dindo! An1mo!

  1. QUOTE (GreenArrows @ Oct 6 2009, 12:18 PM) *
DLSU announced today that multi-titled Head Coach Franz Pumaren and Mamager Terry Capistrano have stepped down from the DLSU team effective at the end of the PCCL. Coach Franz will be running for an elective position which means he will have little time to attend to the team. Manager Terry Capistrano will return to his various business interests.

We also welcome back to DLSU former King Archer Dindo Pumaren who will take over as Head Coach. He will have big shoes to fill as his older siblings Derrick and Franz have won UAAP multiple crowns for the Green and White. Derrick with 2 (or is it 3?) and Franz with 5 (or is it 6). But Coach Dindo will not be left alone as Kuya Franz will remain as Team Consultant.

Thanks for all the memories Franz and Terry. We will miss you guys.

We are all behind you Coach Dindo!

Was there the 1st day when coach Franz took 1st charge of the team leading them in practise. Such a Glorious road he has led our Green Archers. With pride and style we won!!

Thank you Coach for all the Memories and wonderful celebrations!!
We wish you all the best and the same success in your new challenge.
And with Coach Franz still remaining as consultant then the presence will still be there.

Coach Dindo, All our prayers and support are with you on your task ahead and we know you shall do us proud.

    ANIMO LA SALLE!!!!

  3. thank you COACH FRANZ PUMAREN ,and Sir Terry Capistrano !!!
welcome home Coach Dindo Pumaren !

    animo lasalle !!!

  4. Like I said from a previous post, we, the La Sallian community, take pride for having La Salle grads in bringing to us UAAP basketball championships.

We are really grateful to God for gifting us coaches like the Pumarens.

Keep the torch burning. ANIMO LA SALLE!

  5. Thank you Coach Franz for all the memories, the titles. Welcome, Coach Dindo.

  6. Go Coach Franz! Good luck sa pagkandidato mo sa 3rd District ng QC!

  7. Coach franz will always be remembered as the most feared, most admired and most titular coach in recent collegiate basketball history. I was a freshman when we had our four-peat and graduated in 2004 with the cardona-led title. Thanks coach! I, for one, will always treasure those days, thank you for giving us a great team to watch during our college days. We will continue supporting the team and Coach Dindo. Animo La Salle!

  8. Thank you coach Franz, personally i feel sad that his departure comes after a losing season in the UAAP, I would have liked to see him walk of into the sunset triumphantly after winning a title instead of leaving like this.

  9. It will be the fourth Pumaren that will coach the Green Archers Basketball Team. There father Coach Pumaren was the head coach of DLSU Basketball team in the 1980′s. More Power and Good Luck to Pumaren Family. Animo La Salle…. butch ungco 81 official photographer DLSU Basketball Team

  10. ANIMO COACH FRANZ AND MANAGER TERRY. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH

  11. Thank you coach Franz. You will be remembered as one of the greatest coaches in UAAP history. I have great faith in Dindo. We shall reclaim the title once more! Animo La Salle!

  12. To coach franz;

Thanks for all the wonderful things you have done to our alma mater… we will surely miss you..good luck to your future endeavors. To coach Dindo we are with you all the way…. ANIMO LA SALLE

  13. It takes a lot of guts to move on in time of “defeat.” Though the timing seems off, I am sure coach Franz knows when to “let go.”

Coach Franz and Team Manager Capistrano, many many thanks for all the sacrifices and contributions to the team. Thank you for making us proud of the school and the team. Thank you too for making a difference in the lives of our athletes. May God continue to bless your plans! Animo!

  14. Indeed, he is the coach of the decade!

he has climbed the mount olympus of uaap. No other UAAP coach can equalize what coach Franz has made

  15. To Franz and Terry C thank you and GOD bless. For Dindo, I think it is not a good move to replace his brother Franz. Look what happened to UE Warriors under his stewardship, always a contender but never a champion. I have nothing against Dindo, he needs more exposure to coaching. ANINO LA SALLE.

  16. as coach franz steps down as head coach..

we will absolutely miss him a lot..

he had been a good leader since he began calling the shots in 1998..

we love u so much coach..and we will always cherish the happy times spent…

    to the future head coach..DINDO..

    we wish u good luck..

    God bless u always..

    win or loss..

    WE WILL ALWAYS SHOUT…

    ANIMO LA SALLE…

    :) ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

  17. Good luck to coach Franz and thank you to Manager Terry. For the new team, we’ll support you and Dindo like we always do to all La Sallian athletes! Win or lose, we can always claim that from the coach to the players, we are all truly GREEN. Animo La Salle.

  18. Time na talaga for him to leave and time for the school to have someone “new”. Planado kaya to? Transition period lang yung pagiging assistant ni dindo this season? hehe I guess ganyan lang talaga sa college bball here in our country, same thing with aric del rosario (UST), turo valenzona (baste), great coaches who already left their respective teams.

I hope Dindo does not duplicate his success with UE but rather eclipse it and crush his doubters with a championship for La Salle.

  19. To Coach Franz and Mgr. Terry, a million thanks for the dignity and pride you have brought to the school these many years. I too would have preferred that both gentlemen bow out under more “glorious” terms and not after such a bad season. This is not entirely a “changing of the guard” since Coach Dindo will now hold the reins and Franz will still be in the background – I’m sure too that Mr. Terry C. will continue to support in whatever capacity he sees fit. No doubt, the La Sallian community will be behind Coach Dindo and I wish him all the best. All the best also to Coun. Franz P. and Terry C. in all their future endeavors. Thanks and God bless you both.

  20. i’m gonna miss coach franz… :(
    sir, i salute you!

    to coach dindo, welcome! :)

PUMARENs are the best! ANIMO LA SALLE!

  21. thank you coach franz! animo!

  22. we’ll gonna miss you coach franz!
goodluck on your future plans as you step out of collegiate basketball wars.

welcome back to your home.. coach dindo!

    still, AN1MO LA SALLE!

  23. Oh, it feels so sad every time if think that coach franz is stepping out because he’s the guy that led la salle to a dignity. Because every team that won against la salle feels like they can beat anybody, la salle is a standard because of coach franz, think twice coach… WE’LL DEFINITELY MISS U ALL THE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111

  24. Hmmmmm…. I’m happy for both brothers esp. Dindo (my idol for 13 years) who got a second chance to prove himself that he’s just more than a talented coach and not being under his family’s wings/shadow… he had another chance to show on what he can be done as a coach and not only just by winning championships…

For Franz… I respect yet happy for his decision. I think he needs to move another path now by taking another road in order to be more successful and this time, as a politician… I hope, he would still be the same Franz Pumaren who we knew him…

Personally, as Dindo become a new coach for DLSU… I guess I woud like to see him personally once more thru my sister and her MBM friends… the last time I saw him last 2007 @ UE Manila…

Well… best of luck for them!!!! :)

  25. since i became a loyal fan of dlsu green archers,i am always believe that coach franz will lead dlsu into victory!!!

    i respect for his decision….

thank you coach for the memories that you brought us to the community and loyal fans of green archers!!!

we will always shout ANIMO LA SALLE!!!

to coach dindo… welcome home and welcome back to your beloved alma mater!!! we will trust and support you… we are hoping that you lead the dlsu into victory just like your brother did before!

  26. I pray that Coach Dindo will win his first UAAP Crown with La Salle…

  27. thank you coach franz and sir terry! you guys will be missed. good luck!

    ANIMO!

  28. Its only fitting that Dindo will win his first UAAP title coaching his alma mater.I believe he just like the all the Pumarens will bring our team to victory.
