Pregame Bullets: DLSU vs NU
Posted by Nel- In recent years, NU's name could have been changed to 'Bombers' because of their tendency to bomb away at the basket with abandon. Of course, 'Bulldogs' also aptly describes their type of game - tenacious and dangerous.
- Their game is 'free wheeling', and that's the hardest kind of game to defend against because it can be unpredictable and therefore difficult to prepare for. And when any of their players gets hot, watch out. So it will have to be 40 minutes of unrelenting pressure defense, no letdown like what happened in the last 30 seconds of the Adamson game where the Falcons scored 5 points after the Archers held them to a single point for the first 9:30. If the game is close, every point will count.
- NU can score, as seen in their losing effort against UST where they tallied 89 points. So will the Archers hold the 'Dogs to 65 points or less? Can they repeat their strong defensive performance in the 2nd quarter for the 3rd straight game? We'll know at around 4:30 on Thursday.
- Let's hope that our players are all healthy for tomorrow's game. Peejay was in the hospital during last game, with James and Bader being hospitalized after playing against Adamson. Ferdinand also played sick, was examined but was not admitted. If they're not at 100%, the rookies may pick up some of their minutes.

“Can they repeat their strong defensive performance in the 2nd quarter for the 3rd straight game?”
they have to do it the whole 40 mins.

It also wouldn’t hurt to hit the weightroom more. We’ve been bullied by the opponents’ interior defense lately. Nobody seems to be going up strong in the paint anymore. We rarely have any and-one plays anymore.
Where’s strength & conditioning trainer Dan Rose?

I agree with you man, the archers’ interior defense is weak, the guards of FEU and Adamson were able to score and penetrate with absolutely no resistance.

Grabe ung game sa Adamson, luckily nanalo ng 1 point. Pero I think their more stronger than DLSU. Kasi that guard na sobrang galing sa Adamson ung top scorer, at first natatakot sya, eventually nagka confidence ginagawa ng mane ung mga players ng dlsu. Galing tlga ni KISH CO.. WOOHOOOOO.. ANIMO LA SALLE!!!! We still believe!!!! Sana makabalik na ung LASALLE BASKETBALL!!!!

Team defense is the key here. Your comments about our interior defense being weak may or may not be true. But remember that interior defense is the Last Line of defense. That is why our defense starts with our guards. Full court, back court pressure, before that ball even crosses the midcourt. We play defense in sections of the court. The key is always intensity and working within the system. We will win games, we will lose also. But there is one common goal. To win the championship. It doesn’t matter how ugly we get there. If we work as a team, we will. Animo!!!!

I think our interior defense is pretty decent. It’s our interior OFFENSE that has a problem. Once we get into the shaded area, we start throwing up bricks. Nobody can seem to finish shots in the paint on a consistent basis.

Holding our first 4 opponents including UE and FEU to 65 points or less means that our defense is working. I’d attribute the misses inside to “gigil” more than lack of ability to finish. When the players are used to playing with each other, and begin to play relaxed, loose, and with more confidence, that’s when we’ll start to see the real Archer ball. I’d give the team until the end of the first round to make the necessary adjustments.

The “gigil” factor is understandable with the new guys. But players like Ferdinand, Mangahas, Barua and Malabes, who are practically seniors already, can’t use that same excuse…
